Who Cite is for
For students and researchers assembling a bibliography, and specifically for the last evening before a deadline when the writing is done and the references are not. Getting a comma wrong in APA is a genuinely disproportionate way to lose marks.
What Cite does
Paste a DOI and Cite retrieves the full metadata from CrossRef (authors, journal, volume, pages, year), so you are not transcribing a citation by hand and introducing a typo. References organise into collections per project, and export as a formatted APA 7 or IEEE bibliography to Markdown or DOCX. Anything without a DOI can be added manually, because books, theses and reports still exist.

How Cite works

Full metadata is retrieved from CrossRef, which removes the transcription step where errors come from.
Add anything else by hand
Books, theses and reports have no DOI, so manual entry is a normal path rather than a fallback.

APA 7 or IEEE, to Markdown or DOCX, formatted correctly the first time.
What Cite does not do
Cite supports APA 7 and IEEE only: no Chicago, MLA, Harvard or Vancouver, so check your department’s requirement before relying on it. There are no in-text citations and no live document integration: it produces the bibliography, and inserting citations into your prose is manual. It does not import from Zotero or Mendeley, and CrossRef metadata is occasionally incomplete, so verify entries that matter.
Common questions
- Which citation styles are supported?
- APA 7 and IEEE. If your department requires Chicago, MLA, Harvard or Vancouver, this will not produce it: worth checking before you depend on it.
- Does it insert citations into my document?
- No. There is no word-processor plugin or live document integration. Cite produces the bibliography; in-text citations are yours.
- Can I import my Zotero library?
- No. There is no importer. DOI lookup makes adding references quick, and anything without a DOI can be entered by hand.
