Who Flash is for

For students and anyone learning material they must genuinely retain rather than recognise. Also for people who have bounced off Anki because making the cards was the part that killed the habit.

What Flash does

Flash generates cards from Vault notes, Draft documents or pasted text, then schedules each one using SM-2 — the algorithm behind spaced repetition — so a card you found easy comes back in weeks and one you fumbled comes back tomorrow. Card creation being the usual point of failure, generating from material you already wrote removes most of the friction. Export to Anki-compatible TSV exists so the cards are yours to take elsewhere if you ever want to.

How Flash works

Point it at your material
Vault notes, a Draft document, or pasted text. Cards come from what you already wrote.
Review the generated cards
Edit or drop what is not worth keeping. A bad card is worse than no card because you will meet it repeatedly.
Review daily
Rate your recall honestly. The schedule is only as good as the honesty of the rating.
Export if you want to leave
Anki-compatible TSV export, because a learning system that traps your cards is one you should not trust with them.

What Flash does not do

Flash schedules text cards. There are no images, no audio, no cloze deletions and no shared decks to download, so this is not an Anki replacement for people who use those features heavily. Generated cards need editing — a card that tests recognition rather than recall feels productive and teaches nothing. Spaced repetition only works if you show up daily, and no software fixes that.

Common questions

Is this a replacement for Anki?

Not if you rely on images, audio, cloze deletions or shared decks — Flash does none of those. What it does better is generating cards from notes you already wrote, which is where most people give up.

What is SM-2?

The spaced-repetition algorithm that schedules each card by how well you recalled it. Easy cards come back in weeks, difficult ones tomorrow, so review time concentrates where it is actually needed.
